Frequently Asked Questions

When should I hire a doula for my birth?

It’s never too early to begin your search for a doula. This ensures the person you are most interested in will likely still have the availability to take you on as a client, but also gives you plenty of time to make the perfect connection.

I will have my spouse/support person with me in labor. Do I really need a doula?

While having a spouse or support person with you in labor is great, having a doula means everyone is supported. As your doula, its not my intention to replace your support person, but to work together as a team to ensure that everyone is well taken care of. Labor is often a marathon, so allowing your spouse/support person to rest and eat, means they will be at their best when you need them the most.

Is a doula necessary if I have given birth before?

Every pregnancy and every birth is different! Even if you have given birth before, having an additional support person you are familiar and comfortable with makes a significant difference in birth outcomes.

Do you accept insurance?

I am not an in network provider, however I can offer you an itemized bill of services along with my NPI number so that you may receive reimbursement from your insurance provider.

How does a doula support me if I plan to have a cesarean?

Whether you have a planned or spontaneous cesarean section, my job is to enform you of everything that will happen leading up to, during and after your procedure so that you are comfortable and understand what to expect. In special circumstances where I am able to join you in the OR, I am happy to do so. However, if only one additional person is allowed, I will often wait until the procedure is over, and meet you in recovery. (Covid Policies vary)

How does a doula support me if I plan to have an epidural?

Even if you are planning an getting an epidural, a doula plays an important role in applying comfort measures leading up to your epidural being placed. No matter how early you plan to have it placed, there will still be a window of nonmedicated labor, and a doula will be key to your transition.
